The Questions

• Can coastal shipping and inland waterway transport secure additional modal share up to 2050?
• How can the public sector assist in the further development of the two modes?

The Solution

• Developed the evidence base through baseline data analysis and a stakeholder interview programme
• Considered the barriers to greater take-up of the two modes, and the development and appraisal of policy options to address them
• Modelled and forecast goods transported by coastal shipping and inland waterway transport under a range of scenarios up to 2050 using the GB Freight Model
